Ronaldo's Free Kick Breaks 11year Old Boy's Arm

A British Schoolboy, Charlie Silverwood who went to watch his team Bournemouth host Real Madrid in a friendly match had his hand broken by Ronaldo's free-Kick
The Ronaldo's free-kick shot missed the goal-post, went into the stands and hit the boy in his arms, giving him a double fracture in his arms. The boy was so determined not to miss the action he kept watching for the remaining 84 minutes — before going to
hospital where X-rays revealed his double fracture. He faced an operation before being plastered. The boy Charlie admitted: "It was very painful. I've told friends and they cannot believe it. Ronaldo is the world's most expensive player — and he broke my arm."
He also said "I could see the ball coming towards me. It curled past the post and was going to
hit my face — so I had to block it with my hand.It all happened in a blur." To cheer him up,a Real Madrid shirt signed by Ronaldo and his teammates. He also got a ball signed by the Bournemouth

Freed Inmate Refuses To Leave Prison In Owerri

It was a pathetic drama in the Owerri High Court premises Friday morning when an inmate who is believed to have awaited trial in prison for upwards of seven years was acquitted of any wrong doing and discharged by an Owerri
Magistrate Court. According to CrimeFacts, instead of the usual jubilation that follow any ruling of
‘discharged and acquitted’, the inmate, Sylvester Obata (not real names); wearing a long face, headed straight for the Prison van that brought them to court, only to be intercepted by a prison guard who reminded him he was free to
go home. To the chagrin of eyewitnesses, Obata said he was going nowhere demanding to be allowed entry into the Prison Van
back to prison. The prison guard who mistook Obata’s statement for a weird joke was jolted when he tried to push him away from
the prison van and was defiantly
resisted by the freed inmate.
What seemed like a mild drama turned nearly absurd when the calm of the court premises was shattered by Obata’s shouts and pleas to be allowed to go back to prison and he thrashed about and struggled with several prison
officials who wanted him out of the
court and on his way home.
According to eyewitnesses, it took the effort of over six prison officials, court workers and policemen to get the freed inmate out of the court premises. Obata who refused to budge even in the face of threats of brutality by security men, had to be dragged on the floor while he raised hell in the court premises. Outside the prison, Obata sustained his raving, telling whoever cared to listen
why he should be allowed to remain in jail. According to him, setting him free was no big deal, but his plight outside prison is what the court should have also
considered. “I have no place to go or anybody to go to. I have no job or business.I want to go back to prison where I can at least be sure to eat something everyday.” The evidently apprehensive former
prison inmate, demanded to see the Chief Judge of the state to plead his case himself and explain to him why it was better to keep him in prison than
outside prison.

SEE PHOTO: Meet The First Ever Miss Nigeria

Miss Nigeria started as a photo contest in 1957. Contestants posted
photographs of themselves to the
Daily Times headquarters in Lagos
where finalists were shortlisted;
those successful were invited to
compete in the live final which at the time did not include a swimsuit
competition at the Lagos Island Club. UAC employee Grace Tinuke Oyelude won the maiden edition of Miss Nigeria, who later used part of her £200 prize money to travel to England where she studied Nursing. Contrary to popular belief, Julie Coker was not the first Miss Nigeria – she was Miss Western Nigeria but used the ‘Miss Nigeria’ title during official engagements abroad.

SHOCKING NEWS: Man Kills 85Year Old Man Observing Ramadan Night Prayer

Residents of Abiola Central Community, Moniya, Akinyele Local Government area of Oyo State were thrown into mourning as a young man, Mutiu Tiamiyu, beat to death an 85-year-old
man, Nasir Adigun, on Ramadan eve. The octogenarian , who was physically impaired, was said to be observing Tarawhi (Ramadan night prayer) on Tuesday when Tiamiyu pounced on him. It was learnt that the old man was persuaded by his family members to observe the prayer at home, while other members of the household went to the mosque. The attention of residents and worshippers in a nearby mosque were drawn to the old man’s plight by an unnamed teenager, who raised the alarm.
When the residents arrived at Adigun’s house, the old man was found in a pool of blood.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital and was later referred to the University College Hospital, Ibadan. He died before getting to the hospital. An eyewitness, who preferred anonymity, said “Tiamiyu had eaten the old man’s food earlier that night. He later attacked him in his living room.”
A family member said, “Pa Adigun was at home while we all went to the mosque for Tarawhi prayer. He had problem with his sight . We didn’t want to disturb him at night so he stayed at home while others went to mosque for prayer. “All of a sudden, we heard a boy shouting Mutiu’s name. At first we shouted the boy down but we later rushed to the scene because he persisted.
“On getting there, baba was found lying helplessly on the floor in a pool of blood. The young boy said that he saw Tiamiyu hitting baba’s head with a club. He (the boy) lives next door; he refused to go to mosque with his parents. He
told us that he saw Tiamiyu beating the old man when he peeped through the
window.” Tiamiyu, who had earlier escaped was arrested by the victim’s family around 7.20am on Wednesday while trying to escape with his dog. He was handed
over to the police at the Moniya
Division, Ibadan. Some residents of the area described Tiamiyu as a thorn in their flesh. Our correspondent gathered that some
neighbours had complained that he was victimising people in the area. On interrogation before being handed over to the police, Tiamiyu said, “I was hungry and I asked baba to give me money but he refused.” Attempts to get the reaction of the police to the incident failed as the Police
Public Relations Officer, Oyo State
Command, Mrs. Bisi Ilobanefor, could not be reached. Calls made to her telephone number rang out.

Check Out Olamide On The Cover Of Mystreetz Magazine's New Issue

Hip hop star, Olamide looking dapper on suit on the cover of MyStreetz magazine's latest issue.
Sesan Adeniji, the publisher of
MyStreetz magazine said about the new issue; "With the way Nigerian music industry has continued to evolve, sometimes, one need to ask the question what if? What if, Fela hadn't let go of his tussle with Orlando Julius for the ownership of
Highlife Jazz to discover Afro-beat? What if Sir Shina Peters had been content with the music genre he tussled for with Segun Adewale and he hadn't pioneered Afro Juju? What if prince Nico Mbarga hadn't sang "sweet mother" and Tu face never recorded "African
Queen"? The answers are not far fetch. Nigerian music wouldn't have been widely recognized and respected as it is today without the record set by these brave hearts who took the road less traveled and refused to join the bandwagons. We live in the industry where copycat syndrome are the order of the day and the few who dare to do something
different are hardly encouraged from the onset except when the beat from the odds to breakthrough. We at the MyStreetz magazine have always stood
out to report what is different and just like we once projected with 'Olamide's eyes on the rap throne' which was the first time he graced the cover of MyStreetz magazine. Musically his stock has risen ever since, so much that he became the first artist to grace the magazine's cover for the second time.

We have not called off strike – ASUU

Following the indefinite strike embarked by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), last Monday, the union, Sunday disclosed that it will not suspend the industrial action, unless the
Federal Government accedes to the
agreement it reached with it in 2009. This is even as the union debunked reports on some social and online media that it has suspended its one-week old
strike. Speaking with Vanguard, ASUU Chairman, University of Lagos (UNILAG), Chapter, Dr. Karo Ogbinaka said: “The strike is still ongoing. We have not suspended or called-off the strike. Perhaps, before we do that, a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting must be held, then, the resolutions of the meeting will be made known to all chapters of the union,” adding, “The indefinite and total strike will continue, except government meets our demands.”
Meanwhile, FG through its Ministry of Education led by Prof. Ruqayyatu Rufain will Monday meet with stakeholders in
the industry, which included Vice
Chancellors of Federal universities and their Governing Councils, together with interested Vice Chancellors of State and Private universities .
However, at the time of filing this
report , full details of agenda for the meeting was not made known. It would recalled that the union had last Monday, called out its members on an indefinite industrial action over what it termed government’s failure to honour the Academic Earned Allowance (AEA) which
formed a component of the 2009
agreement the government signed with the union.

A MUST READ: Behind The Smile - Torera Adesina

BEHIND THE SMILE

She lights up the world with her smile
Makes sure it’s felt from a thousand
miles
He’s always happy, always cheerful
When someone’s like that, best be fearful
Her smiles don’t mean she doesn’t feel pain
There are a lot of things she’s trying to feign
She smiles to cover up the bruises on her back
From a father who delights pleasure in hitting
She smiles to cover up her oh so
numerous lacks
And the fact that her mother encourages those beatings
He smiles to draw attention away from his shabby clothes
Away from the sorrow you can see in his eyes
Away from the fact that she secretly
loathes
The uncle that rapes her every night
Her smile hides the hate you can feel around her
Hides the hate she feels for most ‘sir’s
It hides the torture he goes through
every time
Someone says something that makes his teeth grind
Someone says something like ‘I wish I could kill them’
Because he watched his brother get
murdered by men
She saw her sister get burnt by her mama
Cause she was pretty with nice manners
You can’t see that he feels a lot of
sadness
Instead he smiles to pretend there’s gladness
A million things can be hidden in the river Nile
Just as a million things are hidden behind the smile.

ASUU President Explains Why Strike Will Continue

The National President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Dr. Nasir Issa-Fagee, has said that universities
in the country will continue with the on-going industrial action despite its effect on the students and their parents as well as on the academic calendar. According to him, the Nigerian Universities will not continue to churn out unemployable graduates because of lack of training facilities in the institutions. He acknowledged that the strike affect both parents and students, but noted that there was the need for sacrifice by all the
stakeholders in order to ensure that Nigeria graduates compete with their peers in other parts of the world. The ASUU boss observed that the agreement which the union entered into with the federal government in 2009 was due for review in June 20th, 2012, regretting that many years after the agreement, it had not
been substantially implemented.
“The academic calendar had already been affected. For the fact that students were graduating, they do not even perform well
when they get into the labour market. “I don’t really know what is our priority. Is it that we just continue churning out graduates with certificates who may not
perform because they have not been trained adequately as a result of lack of training facilities, research, laboratories, workshops and adequately equipped libraries?
“This is an agreement that was signed in 2009 and it should have been reviewed in
20th June, last year. I hope we are now in
July, 2013, which is one year after, yet we have not substantially implemented that agreement let alone, commencing the process of review. “So I think that is the key issue. If government is serious, it would have substantially implemented the agreement
before June 20 and then commence the process of review of that agreement”, he stated.

OJB Responds To Juliet Ibrahim's Query On Raising $100k For Kidney Transplant

Last week, Ghanaian actress Juliet Ibrahim posted a message on her instagram page saying kidney transplant does not cost more than $50k and wondered why people raising funds for OJB were requesting for $100, 000. Well, OJB has responded to that. The ailing music producer and singer told
Encomium magazine.
"The mistake she's making is that it
depends on the hospital you are going to in India. She says she runs a foundation, they might give her a rebate. The procedure itself is $55, 000. When you take out $55, 000, you are left with $45,000. What about the running cost of the
procedure? You don't go to India only to come back and start asking for help again. At least, I need some money to maintain myself for the next one year. So when you
factor in all these costs, add air tickets and lodging, you will appreciate what we are talking about.

ASUU Commences Nation Wide Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities on Monday renewed its hostility with the Federal Government as it declared an indefinite strike action. The resolution followed the body’s National Executive Committee meeting held at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Ago-Iwoye in Ogun State on Sunday and
dragged till the early hours of Monday. According to reports, 51 of the 53 branches of ASUU
unanimously agreed to embark on the strike. The strike with the government, The Nation learned, followed the federal government‘s failure to honour the Academic Earned Allowance (AEA) which formed a component of the 2009 Agreement government signed with the union. Declaring the strike, ASUU chairman University of
Lagos (UNILAG) chapter, Dr. Karo Ogbinaka, who addressed reporters at the university premises
described the strike as a “painful yet inevitable decision.” He added that ASUU is tired of government’s dilly dallying, and cannot allowed
itself to be insulted any further.
Throwing more light on the AEA, Ogbinaka said it includes allowances paid as part of excess work load responsibility allowance, and allowance for supervision of Post Graduate Programmes for
lecturers, head of department (HoDs), Deans and exam officers, among others.
He added that the highest AEA is not more than N12, 500 per month, wondering why it has remained difficult for government to live up to its promises.
